He turned 38 on Sunday. For the past 15 years he has been entertaining us, giving us hope, and above all making us believe. He debuted as a 23-year-old in International cricket against Bangladesh in the winters of 2004. Over the past 15 years he has been batting, running between the wickets, and keeping them, India would believe: yes we can. That’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
This Captain Cool took over as a successful skipper from an equally aggressive yet emotional Saurav Ganguly who was a cut above the rest from his predecessors. Dhoni has since brought the ICC World Cup, the T20 World Cup and the ICC Championships Trophy home, to a billion fans. He has been the most versatile cricketer of our times and continues to be the Wall for Team India.
Over the years, his long hair has given way to cropped salt-n-pepper look, as he has moved on from the helicopter shot to more refined sixes that conclude matches. In all these years, the number 7 jersey on him has acquired a cult status just as Sachin Tendulkar made the number 10 an icon of hope and win.
