It’s PDA, the Obama way

In a warm pubic display of affection (PDA), Barack Obama dedicated a social media post to wife Michelle on Thursday that soon started trending the world over. The loving message, accompanied by a photograph of the couple embracing against the sunset, was meant to mark 27 years of togetherness of the former US President and First Lady. Barack wrote, quoting a line from The Beatles song Getting Better, “Like the Beatles said: It’s getting better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years!“

The candid post did not take too long to garner a response on Twitter and Instagram. In a heartfelt message, Michelle joined Barack in the expression of love, “27 years ago, this guy promised me a life full of adventure. I’d say he’s delivered. Here’s to our next chapter of becoming empty nesters and discovering what’s next—while still feeling the magic that brought us together all those years ago. Happy anniversary, Barack.”

Soon after, #HappyAnniversary started trending with popular figures and other users congratulating the Obamas for 27 years of togetherness on the social media platforms. Users posted messages addressing the ‘people’s president’ and said that they missed the two ‘very much,’ while public figures like Pete Buttigieg even sought some advice. On the same thread, filmmaker Ava DuVernay wrote, “Take tips, gentlemen.” @BarackObama Happy Anniversary to our forever President and First Lady.”

Messages continued to pour in through the day, with people suggesting the two were role models. One user wrote: Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Obama 💞 you’re an American example of how to keep your marriage vows alive and well. Love you two very much

Barack, 58, and Michelle, 55, got married on October 3, 1992 in Chicago. Sticking with each other through political and social campaigns, Barack Obama’s presidency and more, they are still ‘feeling the magic’! Why are we not surprised?
