After Lady 007, brace for a Goddess of Thunder!
1 min readWe weren’t quite over the fact that the iconic James Bond is a Jane now, with agent 007 going to be played by a woman, another movie franchise has brought in a new surprise. Imagine a woman taking up Thor’s hammer.
You heard it right! Natalie Portman will play Thor in the superhero franchise’s fourth edition, and lift the hammer as Jane Foster where the God of Thunder has failed, like in the comic version, Thor Vol. 1: The Goddess of Thunder. Marvel revealed at the San Diego Comic Con 2019, amidst another announcements, that the movie will be called Thor: Love and Thunder. It was earlier announced that the movie will also see the return of Thor Rangrok director Taika Watiti. The movie is set to release in November 2021. Portman was last seen in a Marvel film in Thor: The Dark World (2013).
Among other announcements for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe , Black Widow gets her first solo movie and Simu Liu will play Marvel’s first Asian superhero as Shang-Chi (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Benedict Cumberbatch returns in the Doctor Strange sequel titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is MCU’s first horror film. Mahershala Ali, who has won the Oscar twice, will replace Wesley Spines as Blade.
Also, Chloé Zhao’s Eternals movie will see Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena and Salma Hayek as Ajak, as part of the lead cast.
