1 min readActor Kevin Spacey, 59, would breathe easy after prosecutors looking into a 3-year-old case of indecent assault and battery decided to drop the case on Wednesday. The former House of Cards star was charged with groping a young man at Nantucket island’s Club Car Bar in 2016. The accuser had alleged that Spacey groped him after buying him drinks at the bar on the island off Massachusetts.
The judge in Massachusetts who was hearing the case ordered it may be dismissed as the key evidence, an iPhone 5S mobile phone, which the victim who pressed charges used to send messages and a video to his girl friend, was missing. A powerhouse actor, remembered for some memorable films, including his Oscar-winning role in American Beauty, noir thriller Seven and the House of Cards series on Netflix, had his career come down like a pack of cards in 2017 after he was accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct and/or harassment.
Spacey faced criminal charges in alleged incident that took place in the July of 2016. He pleaded not guilty and did not attend the Monday hearing. He could be hauled off to prison for five years if proven guilty.
A statement released by the accuser’s lawyer, Mitchell Garabedian, said, “My client and his family have shown an enormous amount of courage under difficult circumstances,” he said. “I have no further comment at this time.”
