Nation first for Sudha Murty, when asked about son-in-law, Rishi Sunak
1 min readAuthor and chairperson of Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty, said she places her nation first and the work she is doing for the country in reply to a question on the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, who happens to be her son-in-law. She was participating in an early morning session on the second day of JLF2023.
She said, ” I am very happy for him, but nothing more than that. He is doing his job and serving his country. Here, I am doing my best for my country.”
Her comments on nation first, were warmly received and, to much applause, considering her son-in-law and British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak is in the centre of a political drama unfolding between the two countries over a hate-filled and “anti-Semitic” BBC Panorama documentary, India: The Modi Question. The British broadcaster, which has dropped its first of the two-part series has been castigated for agenda-driven reporting in the political and diplomatic circles in India and abroad.
She said she doesn’t discuss his functioning as a PM. I always bless Rishi, but we don’t talk about it.”
Sudha further said that no matter what a person achieves in life or loses, the family remains family.
The British PM, who is of Indian origin, had earlier defended Modi in the UK parliament where he said, “Of course, we do not tolerate persecution anywhere, but I am not sure that I agree at all with the characterisation that the hon. gentleman has put forward.”
