The ongoing lockdown in India for flattening the curve of Covid-19 virus shall continue beyond the 40-day period that was coming to an end on May 3. The Narendra Modi government has decided to extend the lockdown by two weeks. The fresh directions would place the country under lockdown till May 17. The ministry of home affairs has also issued guidelines offering limited relaxations in the green zones, including allowing app-based cabs and taxi services to ply, opening of private offices and operation of intra-district bus service.

Airlines, trains and inter-state transport, malls, cinema halls and educational institutions shall continue to remain closed irrespective of the zone they are in.

This is the second time the lockdown has been extended. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown on March 24. Thereafter, the lockdown was extended for 19 more days.
