Tokyo 2020 keeps its date in 2021. Olympics kickstart on July 23

The new dates for the Olympics are out. The games which were to be held later this year in Tokyo, Japan, were postponed in wake of the worldwide pandemic triggered by the novel corona virus. The Olympic games will now be held between July 23 and August 8, 2021, in Tokyo. The new dates were announced by the Tokyo 2020 organising committee on Monday.

This is the first time in 124-year history of modern Olympics when the international sporting extravaganza has been postponed to the following year.

The Official website for Olympic Games states: International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Government of Japan today agreed new dates for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, in 2021. “The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from 23 July to 8 August 2021,” the announcement reads. They also agreed on new dates for the Paralympic Games, which will be celebrated from 24 August until 5 September 2021.
